Overview
This page explains how to delete your account and associated data for our apps:
- The Knysna App โ community directory for Knysna, South Africa
- The Plett App โ community directory for Plettenberg Bay, South Africa
You have the right to delete your account and personal data at any time under
South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Google Play's
user data policies.
How to Delete Your Account
Option 1: Delete In-App (Recommended)
The fastest way to delete your account is from within the app itself:
- Open The Knysna App or The Plett App on your device
- Navigate to your business profile
- Tap "Edit My Business"
- Scroll down to find the "Delete Account" option
- Confirm deletion using your PIN
Your account and listing will be removed immediately from the active database.
Option 2: Request Deletion by Email
If you cannot access the in-app option, email us directly:
Please include the following information in your email:
- Subject: "Account Deletion Request"
- Your registered email address
- Which app you wish to delete your account from (The Knysna App or The Plett App)
- Your business name (if applicable)
We will process your deletion request within 30 days and
send confirmation once completed.
What Data Gets Deleted
When you request account deletion, the following data will be permanently removed:
- Your account login credentials (email, password)
- Your business listing and profile information
- Business photos you uploaded
- Contact details (name, phone number, physical address)
- Any reviews or comments you posted
- Your profile picture (if any)
Data We May Retain
Certain data may be retained for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business
reasons, including:

Transaction records: Retained for 7 years per South African
Revenue Service (SARS) tax compliance requirements, then permanently deleted

Anonymized analytics: Usage data that cannot be linked back
to you personally may be retained indefinitely

Legal requirements: Data required to respond to law
enforcement or legal proceedings
Data Retention Periods
The retention periods for various data types are:
- Active Listings: Retained for the duration of your active subscription
- Suspended Listings: Retained for 90 days after suspension, then deleted
- Deleted Listings: Removed from the active database upon deletion
- Events: Removed within 30 days after the event date has passed
- Admin Logs: Activity logs retained for up to 12 months
- Transactional Emails: Retained for up to 6 months
Subscription Cancellation
Important: Deleting your account does not automatically
cancel your subscription. Please cancel your subscription separately:
For iOS (Apple) subscriptions:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone/iPad
- Tap your name at the top, then tap "Subscriptions"
- Find the app subscription and tap "Cancel Subscription"
For Android (Google Play) subscriptions:
- Open the Google Play Store app
- Tap your profile icon, then "Payments & subscriptions" โ "Subscriptions"
- Find the app subscription and tap "Cancel subscription"
Your Rights Under POPIA
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to:
- Access โ Request access to your personal information
- Correction โ Request correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion โ Delete your account and listing at any time
- Object โ Object to processing in certain circumstances
- Withdraw Consent โ Withdraw consent by deleting your account
- Complain โ Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
